Kindergarten Ľubotice

The architectural study includes not only the design of the kindergarten extension, but also the original buildings into one unit. The placement of the new volume in the center of the village, specifically between the manor house and the church, responds to the surrounding housing development and tries to fit in with the archetypal shape with a hipped roof. The large volume of the extension is divided into smaller units. Such division also brings the benefit of a roof terrace accessible from each classroom on the floor. The terrace is connected to the ground by a residential staircase with a slide and another slide between the building masses. These units have the same facade material, but are colored in muted tones. The original buildings take on the color of the village coat of arms, while the extension is inspired by the colors of the trees in the park in which it is located.

By extending the square and ending it with a kindergarten building with a new entrance, a secondary square was created serving this function. The original main part of the square serves as an anteroom for the municipal office and library, which is connected to a newly designed commercial space, e.g. a café. Thanks to this insertion of commercial space into the square, a new meeting place and revival of the square will stand out in the village. The municipal office is currently located in the attic of the original building. The study includes the construction of load-bearing walls and the creation of an adequate space, which would increase the representativeness of such an institution with a newly created entrance from the central part of the square. The paving of the square will provide a barrier-free entrance to the individual buildings, which is currently absent.

The construction can be divided into several stages. In the first phase of implementation, a new kindergarten building would be built. In the next phase, the plan is to create a connection with the original building, in which the layout and size of the windows will be adjusted. These currently have a high sill and the children have no visual contact with the surroundings.

The extension of the municipal office with a new entrance is a vision that can be solved as a separate stage. The main entrance of the new building opens into a spacious hall, from which the classrooms open in every direction. The entrance to each classroom is solved through a separate locker room. Each classroom has its own sanitary facilities, storage and isolation room. The layout of the classrooms in the original building has been adjusted in the same way. A gym and a dining room were created in the studio from the original classrooms with insufficient square footage, and the original kitchen was also expanded to the necessary new capacity.

From a material point of view, the design reflects ecological, sustainable principles and minimization of the carbon footprint. It is a timber construction based on CLT panels and KVH glued solid wall profiles. From a static point of view, it is a combination of a columnar wooden frame and wall wooden elements. The floor is considered as a connection of CLT panels with a concrete shell.
