ECO OBSERVATORY MICHALOVCE – RECONSTRUCTION AND COMPLETION
The Eco Observatory project in Michalovce was created as an architectural study in 2024 by the Atrium studio and involves the renovation of the original Mousson Memorial House, today the headquarters of the observatory. Part of the building is a cultural monument, which the design respects through sensitive reconstruction and the addition of new volumes below ground level.
The architects designed new exhibition spaces, a multimedia room, public facilities and a roof terrace with an observatory. An important part of the concept is the completion of the public space and green areas around the building. The project remains „in a drawer“ for now – as a vision of how the regional observatory could be transformed into a living ecological and educational center with an extension to the public space.
The architectural studio Atrium architekti was founded in 1991 in Košice as a space for connecting architecture, urbanism, design and fine arts. The name refers to the ancient atrium – the center of the house and life, which is also reflected in the philosophy of the studio: the search for a person's relationship to the environment, nature and oneself.
