Pedestrian zone Liptovský Mikuláš
The project has been prepared on the basis of the winning proposal for public-urban architectural competition for a comprehensive solution of CMZ foot spaces in the range of about 3 ha. Extensive space of the 1st phase of the pedestrian zone in the historical heart of Liptovsky Mikulas allowed us to expand on our present ideas, contradictions and peculiarities of the city. We were inspired by the 19th century inventions which are reflected in our designs – market stalls, street lamps, benches, barriers, railings and baked bricks used as paving. The main motive is the AUREL fountain and the artwork in it which symbolizes a tribute to creativity. The art work functions as an orientation machine – turbine blades are rotated against each other and the base points to all sides. The pedestrian zone required looking for a new composition of landscape architecture, traffic arrangement (there is a separate cycle path), the preservation of historical traces (accentuated castle wall, original travertine slabs, pebbles, etc.) and the reaction of architecture defining the space.
